Most of 2023 has flown by in a blink. Since my last posting at the end of 2022, I have completed a number of mosaics. I even submitted the final Tetons mosaic to the Booth Museum’s Artist Guild exhibit and I won an honorable mention! I was floored! It was super amazing to be the only mosaic artists displayed and be recognized among so many talented painters. .

The Grand Teton and Jenny Lake at Sunset
18x21 inches
It’s almost 2023 y’all!
It is so hard to believe that it is almost 2023. Where did the year go? Although it was a crazy work year, this yeas was one of growth for me as an artist. I was graced with an encouraging family and amazing husband (that doesn’t give himself enough credit for his mad skills at frame making). I completed 5 commissioned pieces and sold an additional 4 mosaics. This was along with a few others that I made as gifts for special people in my life. IThis is a picture of the Grand Tetons in progress. The glass on top is for the sky. Happy Hannukah, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to y’all!

Sicily, Italy 2022
I was commissioned to create a mosaic of Sicily, Italy as a present. The person who commissioned this piece had traveled to Italy with their friend and wanted to give them a special Christmas present.
Here’s my YouTube Video!
I had the honor of being interviewed at the Booth Western Art Museum Artist Guild show:

She will soar
Monarch Butterfly
8x8 inch, glass mosaic on cement board, black and grey grout
I made this butterfly based on a beautiful photograph of a monarch butterfly posted on the Facebook community “Crap wildlife photos” by Laura Adams. Laura was kind enough to send me the non-crap photo that beautifully captured the monarch butterfly sitting on a flower. It is a gift for my neighbors who have a new born baby girl that has had some health challenges. I didn’t intend to gift it when I started. I was simply making it because the butterfly seemed like a nice subject. But, now it seems like a perfect gift, as like the butterfly, I know baby girl will soar.

Tiny Dancers
I created these cute ballet dancer mosaics as gifts for my daughter’s dance teachers. I learned that doing ballet slippers is tricky, but I think these work. My daughter is a rising senior in high school and she has been dancing with her studio since about the age of 5 years old. These are just a way to let Julie and Leia know how much I appreciate everything they have done for Faye to help her grow into a caring, graceful, and creative young woman. I hope they will be displayed at the studio.

A Work in Progress
After so many wonderful folk have asked me about my mosaics and if I had a website, I have finally created one. Just as the start of the Delicate Arch in this picture, it is a work in progress. Piece by piece it will come together. Just like working on a mosaic, it will probably be done in fits and spurts with some days full of activity, and other days none. When you hit a wall , it is best to set the piece to the side until inspiration hits. Just like cutting glass, you can’t rush the creation process. When it is right, the glass will cut exactly as you want it to. If forced, it will shatter. Yet, the nice thing about mosaics, is eventually even the shattered pieces will find their place in another one. You just need to wait for the right one. In the end, all those small pieces will come together to make one beautiful whole image.
